Supreme Court gives telecom companies 10 years to pay Rs 1.4 lakh crore dues to government
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted telecom companies 10 years to clear AGR (adjusted gross revenue) dues of around Rs 1.43 lakh crore to the Centre, providing much needed relief to some of the telcos which could have faced the prospect of winding up their operations for being unable to pay the entire amount at one go.
A bench of Justices Arun Mishra, S Abdul Nazeer and M R Shah agreed with the Centre’s plea that staggered payment option be given to bail out the companies, otherwise it would have adverse impact not only on the telecom and banking sectors but also on the overall economic growth of the country. The court, however, made it clear that the companies have to pay the dues without further review as it granted the firms a 10-year window instead of the 20 years proposed by the Centre previously in the course of the hearings.

ഇതെന്തു ന്യായം ? വർഷങ്ങളായി സർക്കാരിന് കൊടുക്കാനുള്ള തുക 10 വർഷം കൊണ്ട് തവണകളായി കൊടുത്താൽ മതി; പലിശയും ഇല്ല, പിഴയും ഇല്ല. ഇനി കൊടുക്കാനുള്ളവർക്കെല്ലാം ഈ വിധി ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിക്കാം ? മുൻപ്, വിമാനത്താവളങ്ങൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച സ്വകാര്യ വിമാന കമ്പനികളോടും ഇങ്ങിനെ തന്നെ. കിട്ടാനുള്ള സകലകാശും ഇവന്മാരിൽനിന്നു ഉടൻ മേടിക്കണം; ഈ മഹാമാരിയുടെ കാലത്തു അത് മനുഷ്യർക്ക് ഉപകരിക്കും.
