Nam,
Who the devil in this world wants these Malayalam digits. Malayalam
digits are an unwanted addition to the already confused world. None
should learn it or promote it. The language is alright , not the
digits. Even the Arabs are slowly realizing their folly and follow
normal digits. While they write text from right to left they are at a
loss as to how the digits are written.
One look at the malayalam digits, I left like throwing up. Please
prevent it from bing propagated.
Best regards
Job

What changes and why?

It is a pity that Malayalis themselves are ignorant of their own
numerical system.
Some people will gaze at the calendar published by one well known Naturopathy
Centere. But they have done it for their commercial ends. Different matter.

When I was moving around as a rough or tough rebel, I used to write these
numerals. But nobody took it serious.

The solemn prayer is this Malayalam language be saved for it's existence
for reasons well known to the world because of Malayalis themselves.
We will speak aloud the Globalisation is taking it's lead to kill
languages of other
countries, and the regional or sublatern languages. It is true with
Tamil or Bengali
speaking people. But there is no scope of the onslaught of Globalisation on
Malayalam, because Malayalis themselves will take up the suicidor's role!

Malayalam Era or Kollavarsham is a solar Sideral calendar used in the the state of Kerala in South India.

Origin

Almost all of the regions kerala used to the Kali yuga before the acceptance of Kollavarsham.

The start of the Malayalam Era has been attributed to many origins.

According to Tharisapalli plates the era was stated by Nestorian merchants who settled in KorukeNi kollam, near to the present Kollam. The other popular notion according to Hermann Gundert, it coordinated with consecration of a shiva temple during the reign of Udaya Marthanda Varma. Another theory is that Kollavarsham was started by the Saint Sankaracharya in 825 AD.

For an immediate and unconditional cease-fire

International appeal

Today, July 30th, another massacre was committed in Lebanon: More than

sixty civilians, among them 37 children, were killed by Israeli bombs

while they were sleeping in shelters in the village of Qana. They died

not very far away from the mass grave holding the bodies of 106

civilians burned by a previous Israeli attack in April 1996 inside a

shelter provided by a UN battalion

Reacting to this terrible news, the only sane decision that needs to

be made immediately is that of a ceasefire.

A ceasefire would allow for humanitarian relief to reach the innocent

victims, for the bodies to be buried instead of being eaten by the

dogs, and for all the underlying problems to be negotiated and

eventually solved. More victims can only produce more hatred.

In the last few days, Lebanon has been promised by the EU, the UK and

the US help in rebuilding its infrastructure and humanitarian aid to

assist the eight hundred thousand internally displaced persons and

"humanitarian corridors", but they stopped short of demanding a

ceasefire, which encouraged Israel to continue with its "mission" of

unilaterally enforcing the resolution to disarm Hezbollah. With that

same logic, Hezbollah could argue it has a mission to enforce the many

UN Security Council resolutions demanding Israel to withdraw from the

occupied Palestinian territories and to implement the right of return

of the Palestinian refugees.

On July 27, Israeli Justice Minister Haim Ramon said that Israel had

given civilians ample time to leave southern Lebanon. "All those now

in south Lebanon are terrorists who are related in some way to

Hezbollah," he said, according to the BBC. The same strategy is in

these days deployed in the Gaza Strip where the populations of

neighborhoods and refugee camps are asked to leave their homes. This

comes down to blatant collective punishment of entire populations.

The escalating violence in Lebanon can not be solved unilaterally with

self-proclaimed righteousness by any party. Peace is negotiated

between enemies, not with friends. And the first step to any

negotiation is a ceasefire. Or is it that every child has to die so

that they do not grow into "terrorists"?

A year ago, the UK Prime Minister championed the cause of including in

the UN mandate the "responsibility to protect populations from

genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity".

Yet the UN, the European Union, The United States and the United

Kingdom have failed in their responsibility to protect the Lebanese

and Palestinian children. Or even to clearly condemn the latest

Israeli criminal acts.

The international civil society and social movements are raising their

voice and mobilizing throughout the world not only to express their

indefectible solidarity with the Lebanese people, but also to build a

huge international barrier against the global war of re-colonization

of the world.

We are demanding

• An immediate and unconditional cease-fire, in Lebanon as well as in

the Palestinian Occupied Territories!

• The implementation of full sovereignty to Lebanon and the national

rights of the Palestinian people!

• No NATO forces on the Lebanese territory!

We support the call of the international solidarity delegation in

Lebanon for an international day of protest and solidarity on August

12th.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Survey points to high mental illness incidence in Kerala / NRI account hacked: Rs 1.18 lakh missing

Survey points to high mental illness incidence in Kerala
Sangeeth Kurian
Findings of an NSSO survey on disabled persons in the country
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has earned the dubious distinction of the State with the highest number of people with mental illness in the country.
The State is also way ahead of the national average in terms of the number of people with various kinds of disabilities such as mental retardation, hearing, speech impairment and loco motor disabilities.
The findings are the highlight of a survey on `Disabled Persons in India' conducted by the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) after a gap of 11 years.
This is the first time the survey contains information on mentally challenged persons, those with mental illness and retardation, along with the findings on persons with physical disabilities.
It is estimated that there are 272 persons per one lakh population in the State suffering from mental illness, while the corresponding national average is 105. The State is followed by the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (211), Himachal Pradesh (195) and Lakshadweep (177).

NRI account hacked: Rs 1.18 lakh missing
PUNE: The Bund Garden police have registered a case of fraud, following a complaint from a US-based software professional, who said that unknown persons had broken into his ICICI Bank account and illegally transferred Rs 1,18,038, using the net banking facility.
Thirty-two-year-old Vikram Gaikwad, who works for Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in the US, is in the city while his father is undergoing treatment at a city hospital.
He originally hails from Khandala in Satara district. In his complaint to the police late on Thursday, Vikram said he first discovered that a sum of Rs 20,000 was missing when he checked his account using the net banking facility from a cyber café located at Gera Sterling Centre on North Main Road on May 24.

Somnath's poser to poll commission / Indian women deliver low weight babies: Study

Somnath's poser to poll commission
Neena Vyas
Should it not be more circumspect in dealing with another constitutional
authority?

Allegation by Trinamool Congress office-bearer "an insinuation"
EC has besmirched the reputation of MPs, Speaker by displaying their names
on the website: Chatterjee
Supreme Court ruled that SSDA was a statutory body

NEW DELHI: Should a constitutional authority like the Election Commission
besmirch the reputations of MPs, the Speaker and others on the basis of
unsubstantiated allegations and when no prima facie case has been made out?
Should it not have been more circumspect, especially when dealing with
another constitutional authority, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha?

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee raised
these questions in connection with the Commission's action placing on its
website the names of all those against whom it had received complaints
related to the office-of-profit issue. Mr. Chatterjee's name has also been
on the website for some time.

"This is not the way to cast aspersions... it is nothing but insinuation,"
Mr. Chatterjee said referring to a complaint filed by a Trinamool Congress
office-bearer against him on March 8 just ahead of the Assembly polls.
Further, the Commission "permitted the insinuation to continue" by placing
his name on the website, thus creating the impression that the Speaker held
an office of profit and should be disqualified from being an MP and,
therefore, as Speaker.
Mr. Chatterjee challenged anyone to prove that the position he held as
Chairman of the Sriniketan Santiniketan Development Authority (SSDA) was an
office of profit. "The position carries no salary, no allowance, no car, no
house, not even a payment for attending meetings." He had not received a
single paisa for that office. And yet the insinuation was allowed to spread.

Indian women deliver low weight babies: Study
Kanupriya Vashisht
Phoenix, May 25, 2006

Compared to the strapping Americans, Indians in America are considered small
and petite.
The trend continues even among babies born to second generation Indians.
Despite having fewer risk factors, US-born Indian women are more likely than
their Mexican-American counterparts to deliver low birth weight infants,
according to researchers at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and
Stanford's School of Medicine.
The finding confirms previous research that showed a similar pattern in more
recent immigrants, and suggests that physicians should consider their
patients' ethnic backgrounds when planning their care.

Pazhassi Raja Kerala Varma was one of our earliest freedom fighters. / Nepal to become secular state

Looking back
The royal `rebel' of Kottayam
SHREEKUMAR VARMA
Pazhassi Raja Kerala Varma was one of our earliest freedom fighters.

Tough opponent: Kerala Varma.
THE night of November 29, 1805 was surprisingly hot and humid in the jungles
beyond Wayanad. A small army of rebels from Malabar had crossed over to the
Mysore side and was holed up there, hiding from the British. None of them
could sleep properly and there was a sense of unease.
The next morning, their leader, Kerala Varma, was up early. It was an
important day for him, his mother's death anniversary. He bathed in the
Mavila Thodu, and finished his prayers. He discussed strategy with his men
for a while, and then they formed a protective circle around him as he sat
on the bank and the ceremonies began. Suddenly, in the middle of the
rituals, they found themselves surrounded by the English army under
Sub-Collector Thomas Harvey Baber.

Nepal to become secular state
May. 15, 2006 at 7:55AM
Nepal's prime minister announced Monday that the government would change
from a Hindu kingdom to a secular state, with equal rights for all.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala said Monday that the declaration,
to be proclaimed by the House of Representatives later, would protect the
rights of the nation's indigenous people and minorities.
Hundreds of indigenous people were protesting in front of the prime
minister's home to demand a secular state, the Himalayan Times reported. The
prime minister made his comments in response to their demands.

Innu' is 25 years old
Readers' support has been its working capital all these years

Inland magazines are like butterflies - pretty, small-sized and doomed to a
short life. But `Innu' (Today) published from Malappuram is different. It is
celebrating 25 years of eventful existence. Says its Editor Manambur Rajan
Babu: "This is a world record. To my knowledge, no inland magazine has
survived this long. Readers' support is the fuel that has kept `Innu' going
all these years.

`Innu' has no working capital, not even subscription rates. Anyone residing
in the country who sends postage stamps worth Rs.20 gets it free for one
year and for postage stamp worth Rs.150 you can get it if you are living
outside the country.

"The last 25 years have been tough," reminisces Mr. Rajan Babu. "But I
always have had the freedom to choose the right type of material for
publication without interference from market forces," he says.

104th Constitution Amendment Bill seeking reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribess (ST) and Other Backward Castes (OBC)

Parliament approves 104th Constitution Amendment Bill

New Delhi, Dec 22, 2005 (ANI): The Rajya Sabha on Thursday approved the 104th Constitution Amendment Bill seeking reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribess (ST) and Other Backward Castes (OBC) in non-minority unaided private educational institutions.

The Upper House passed the Bill almost unanimously with 172 voted in favour of it, while two members voted against it.

The Lok Sabha had already passed the Bill on Tuesday with 379 votes in favour and one vote against and one abstaining.

While piloting the bill Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh said the bill was aimed with providing greater access to higher education, including professional education, to a large number of students belonging to socially and educationally backward classes of citizens and SCs and STs.

The Bill was the outcome of an all-party meeting that had summoned last August to nullify certain disadvantages created by judgments of the courts.

It was aimed at amending Article 15 of the Constitution, which provided reservation of seats to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) in admission to government-aided educational institutions only.

Singh said that Article 30(1) provided the right to all minorities to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice and it was essential that such rights were protected. That's why the institutions, declared by the state to be minority ones were omitted from the purview of the new provision.

Singh said that the clause would enable Parliament as well as State Legislatures to make appropriate laws for this purpose. (ANI)

Letter From Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President Of Iran, To George BushBy Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Mr. George Bush, President of the United States of America,
For sometime now I have been thinking, how one can justify the undeniable contradictions that exist in the international arena -- which are being constantly debated, especially in political forums and amongst university students. Many questions remain unanswered. These have prompted me to discuss some of the contradictions and questions, in the hopes that it might bring about an opportunity to redress them.
Can one be a follower of Jesus Christ (PBUH), the great Messenger of God, feel obliged to respect human rights, present liberalism as a civilization model, announce one's opposition to the proliferation of nuclear weapons and WMDs, make War and Terror his slogan, and finally, work towards the establishment of a unified international community . . . . . . .

Letter From Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President Of Iran, To George Bush

12 May, 2006 Le Monde
Can one be a follower of Jesus Christ (PBUH), the great Messenger of God, feel obliged to respect human rights, present liberalism as a civilization model, announce one's opposition to the proliferation of nuclear weapons and WMDs, make War and Terror his slogan, and finally, work towards the establishment of a unified international community – a community which Christ and the virtuous of the Earth will one day govern, but at the same time, have countries attacked; the lives, reputations and possessions of people destroyed and on the slight chance of the … of a … criminals in a village city, or convoy for example the entire village, city or convey set ablaze. Or because of the possibility of the existence of WMDs in one country, it is occupied, around one hundred thousand people killed, its water sources, agriculture and industry destroyed, close to 180,000 foreign troops put on the ground, sanctity of private homes of citizens broken, and the country pushed back perhaps fifty years. At what price? Hundreds of billions of dollars spent from the treasury of one country and certainly other countries and tens of thousands of young men and women – as occupation troops – put in harm's way, taken away from family and loved ones, their hands stained with the blood of others, subjected to so much psychological pressure that every day some commit suicide and those returning home suffer depression, become sickly, and grapple with all sorts of aliments; while some are killed and their bodies handed off to their families.
On the pretext of the existence of WMDs, this great tragedy came to engulf both the peoples of the occupied and the occupying country. Later it was revealed that no WMDs existed to begin with.
Of course Saddam was a murderous dictator. But the war was not waged to topple him, the announced goal of the war was to find and destroy weapons of mass destruction. He was toppled along the way towards another goal, nevertheless the people of the region are happy about it. I point out that throughout the many years of the … war on Iran Saddam was supported by the West.
Mr. President,You might know that I am a teacher. My students ask me how can theses actions be reconciled with the values outlined at the beginning of this letter and duty to the tradition of Jesus Christ (PBUH), the Messenger of peace and forgiveness.
There are prisoners in Guantanamo Bay that have not been tried, have no legal representation, cannot be seen by their families, and are obviously kept in a strange land outside their own country. There is no international monitoring of their conditions and fate. No one knows whether they are prisoners, POWs, accused, or criminals.
European investigators have confirmed the existence of secret prisons in Europe too. I could not correlate the abduction of a person and him or her being kept in secret prisons with the provisions of any judicial system. For that matter, I fail to understand how such actions correspond to the values outlined in the beginning of this letter, i.e. the teachings of Jesus Christ (PBUH), human rights, and liberal values.
Young people, university students, and ordinary people have many questions about the phenomenon of Israel. I am sure you are familiar with some of them.
Throughout history many countries have been occupied, but I think the establishment of a new country with a new people is a new phenomenon that is exclusive to our times.
Students are saying that sixty years ago such a country did not exist. They show old documents and globes and say try as we have, we have not been able to find a country named Israel.
I tell them to study the history of WWI and II. One of my students told me that during WWII, which more than tens of millions of people perished in, news about the war was quickly disseminated by the warring parties. Each touted their victories and the most recent battlefront defeat of the other party. After the war, they claimed that six million Jews had been killed. Six million people that were surely related to at least two million families.
Again let us assume that these events are true. Does that logically translate into the establishment of the state of Israel in the Middle East or support for such a state? How can this phenomenon be rationalized or explained?
Mr. President,I am sure you know how – and at what cost – Israel was established : Many thousands were killed in the process.
Millions of indigenous people were made refugees.
Hundred of thousands of hectares of farmland, olive plantations, towns, and villages were destroyed.
This tragedy is not exclusive to the time of establishment; unfortunately it has been ongoing for sixty years now.
A regime has been established which does not show mercy even to kids, destroys houses while the occupants are still in them, announces beforehand its list and plans to assassinate Palestinian figures and keeps thousands of Palestinians in prison. Such a phenomenon is unique – or at the very least extremely rare – in recent memory.
Another big question asked by people is why is this regime being supported? Is support for this regime in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ (PBUH) or Moses (PBUH) or liberal values? Or are we to understand that allowing the original inhabitants of these lands – inside and outside Palestine – whether they are Christian, Muslim, or Jew, to determine their fate, runs contrary to principles of democracy, human rights, and the teachings of prophets? If not, why is there so much opposition to a referendum?
The newly elected Palestinian administration recently took office. All independent observes have confirmed that this government represents the electorate. Unbelievingly, they have put the elected government under pressure and have advised it to recognise the Israeli regime, abandon the struggle and follow the programs of the previous government.
If the current Palestinian government had run on the above platform, would the Palestinian people have voted for it? Again, can such position taken in opposition to the Palestinian government be reconciled with the values outlined earlier? The people are also saying why are all UNSC resolutions in condemnation of Israel vetoed?
Mr. President,As you are well aware, I live amongst the people and am in constant contact with them --many people from around the Middle East manage to contact me as well. They dot not have faith in these dubious policies either. There is evidence that the people of the region are becoming increasingly angry with such policies.
It is not my intention to pose too many questions, but I need to refer to other points as well.
Why is it that any technological and scientific achievement reached in the Middle East regions is translated into and portrayed as a threat to the Zionist regime? Is not scientific R&D one of the basic rights of nations?
You are familiar with history. Aside from the Middle Ages, at what other point in history has scientific and technical progress been a crime? Can the possibility of scientific achievements being utilized for military purposes be reason enough to oppose science and technology altogether? If such a supposition is true, then all scientific disciplines, including physics, chemistry, mathematics, medicine, engineering, etc. must be opposed.
Lies were told in the Iraqi matter. What was the result? I have no doubt that telling lies is reprehensible in any culture, and you do not like to be lied to.
Mr. President,Don't Latin Americans have the right to ask why their elected governments are being opposed and coup leaders supported? Or why they must constantly be threatened and live in fear?
The people of Africa are hardworking, creative, and talented. They can play an important and valuable role in providing for the needs of humanity and contribute to its material and spiritual progress. Poverty and hardship in large parts of Africa are preventing this from happening. Don't they have the right to ask why their enormous wealth – including minerals – is being looted, despite the fact that they need it more than others?
Again, do such actions correspond to the teachings of Christ and the tenets of human rights?
The brave and faithful people of Iran too have many questions and grievances, including : the coup d'etat of 1953 and the subsequent toppling of the legal government of the day, opposition to the Islamic revolution, transformation of an Embassy into a headquarters supporting the activities of those opposing the Islamic Republic (many thousands of pages of documents corroborates this claim), support for Saddam in the war waged against Iran, the shooting down of the Iranian passenger plane, freezing the assets of the Iranian nation, increasing threats, anger, and displeasure vis-Ă -vis the scientific and nuclear progress of the Iranian nation (just when all Iranians are jubilant and collaborating their country's progress), and many other grievances that I will not refer to in this letter.
Mr. President,September Eleventh was a horrendous incident. The killing of innocents is deplorable and appalling in any part of the world. Our government immediately declared its disgust with the perpetrators and offered its condolences to the bereaved and expressed its sympathies.
All governments have a duty to protect the lives, property, and good standing of their citizens. Reportedly your government employs extensive security, protection, and intelligence systems – and even hunts its opponents abroad. September Eleventh was not a simple operation. Could it be planned and executed without coordination with intelligence and security services – or their extensive infiltration? Of course this is just an educated guess. Why have the various aspects of the attacks been kept secret? Why are we not told who botched their responsibilities? And, why aren't those responsible and the guilty parties identified and put on trial?
All governments have a duty to provide security and peace of mind for their citizens. For some years now, the people of your country and neighbors of world trouble spots do not have peace of mind. After 9/11, instead of healing and tending to the emotional wounds of the survivors and the American people – who had been immensely traumatized by the attacks – some Western media only intensified the climates of fear and insecurity, constantly talking about the possibility of new terror attacks and keeping the people in fear. Is that service to the American people? Is it possible to calculate the damages incurred from fear and panic?
American citizens lived in constant fear of fresh attacks that could come at any moment and in any place. They felt insecure in the streets, in their place of work, and at home. Who would be happy with this situation? Why was the media, instead of conveying a feeling of security and providing peace of mind, giving rise to a feeling of insecurity?
Some believe that the hype paved the way – and was the justification – for an attack on Afghanistan. Again I need to refer to the role of media. In media charters, correct dissemination of information and honest reporting of a story are established tenets. I express my deep regret about the disregard shown by certain Western media for these principles. The main pretext for an attack on Iraq was the existence of WMDs. This was repeated incessantly – for the public to, finally, believe – and the ground set for an attack on Iraq.
Will the truth not be lost in a contrived and deceptive climate? Again, if the truth is allowed to be lost, how can that be reconciled with the earlier mentioned values? Is the truth known to the Almighty lost as well?
Mr. President,In countries around the world, citizens provide for the expenses of governments so that their governments in turn are able to serve them.
The question here is what has the hundreds of billions of dollars, spent every year to pay for the Iraqi campaign, produced for your citizens?
As your Excellency is aware, in some states of your country, people are living in poverty. Many thousands are homeless and unemployment is a huge problem. Of course these problems exist – to a larger or lesser extent – in other countries as well. With these conditions in mind, can the gargantuan expenses of the campaign – paid from the public treasury – be explained and be consistent with the aforementioned principles?
What has been said are some of the grievances of the people around the world, in our region, and in your country. But my main contention – which I am hoping you will agree to some of it – is: those in power have specific time in office, and do not rule indefinitely, but their names will be recorded in history and will be constantly judged in the immediate and distant futures.
The people will scrutinize our presidencies.
Did we manage to bring peace, security, and prosperity for the people, or insecurity and unemployment? Did we intend to establish justice, or just support special interest groups, and by forcing many people to live in poverty and hardship, make a few people rich and powerful – thus trading the approval of the people and the Almighty with theirs? Did we defend the rights of the underprivileged or ignore them? Did we defend the rights of all people around the world or impose wars on them, interfere illegally in their affairs, establish hellish prisons and incarcerate some of them? Did we bring the world peace and security or raise the specter of intimidation and threats? Did we tell the truth to our nation and others around the world or present an inverted version of it? Were we on the side of the people or the occupiers and oppressors? Did our administration set out to promote rational behavior, logic, ethics, peace, fulfilling obligations, justice, service to the people, prosperity, progress, and respect for human dignity, or the force of guns. Intimidation, insecurity, disregard for the people, delaying the progress, and excellence of other nations, and trample on people's rights? And finally, they will judge us on whether we remained true to our oath of office – to serve the people, which is our main task, and the traditions of the prophets – or not?
Mr. President,How much longer can the world tolerate this situation? Where will this trend lead the world to? How long must the people of the world pay for the incorrect decisions of some rulers? How much longer will the specter of insecurity – raised from the stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction – hunt the people of the world? How much longer will the blood of the innocent men, women, and children be spilled on the streets, and people's houses destroyed over their heads? Are you pleased with the current condition of the world? Do you think present policies can continue?
If the billions of dollars spent on security, military campaigns, and troop movement were instead spent on investment and assistance for poor countries, promotion of health, combating different diseases, education and improvement of mental and physical fitness, assistance to the victims of natural disasters, creation of employment opportunities and production, development projects and poverty alleviation, establishment of peace, mediation between disputing states and distinguishing the flames of racial, ethnic, and other conflicts, were would the world be today? Would not your government and people be justifiably proud? Would not your administration's political and economic standing have been stronger? And I am most sorry to say, would there have been an ever increasing global hatred of the American governments?
Mr. President, it is not my intention to distress anyone.
If the prophets Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ishmael, Joseph, or Jesus Christ (PBUH) were with us today, how would they have judged such behavior? Will we be given a role to play in the promised world, where justice will become universal and Jesus Christ (PBUH) will be present? Will they even accept us?
My basic question is this : Is there no better way to interact with the rest of the world? Today there are hundreds of millions of Christians, hundreds of millions of Moslems and millions of people who follow the teachings of Moses (PBUH). All divine religions share and respect on word and that is monotheism or belief in a single God and no other in the world.
The holy Koran stresses this common word and calls on an followers of divine religions and says: "[3.64] Say : O followers of the Book! Come to an equitable proposition between us and you that we shall not serve any but Allah and (that) we shall not associate aught. With Him and (that) some of us shall not take others for lords besides Allah, but if they turn back, then say : Bear witness that we are Muslims. (The Family of Imran)."
Mr. President,According to divine verses, we have all been called upon to worship one God and follow the teachings of divine prophets. To worship a God which is above all powers in the world and can do all He pleases. The Lord which knows that which is hidden and visible, the past and the future, knows what goes on in the Hearts of His servants and records their deeds. The Lord who is the possessor of the heavens and the earth and all universe is His court; planning for the universe is done by His hands, and gives His servants the glad tidings of mercy and forgiveness of sins. He is the companion of the oppressed and the enemy of oppressors. He is the Compassionate, the Merciful. He is the recourse of the faithful and guides them towards the light from darkness. He is witness to the actions of His servants, He calls on servants to be faithful and do good deeds, and asks them to stay on the path of righteousness and remain steadfast. He calls on servants to heed His prophets and He is a witness to their deeds. A bad ending belongs only to those who have chosen the life of this world and disobey Him and oppress His servants. And a good and eternal paradise belongs to those servants who fear His majesty and do not follow their lascivious selves.
We believe a return to the teachings of the divine prophets is the only road leading to salvations. I have been told that Your Excellency follows the teachings of Jesus (PBUH), and believes in the divine promise of the rule of the righteous on Earth.
We also believe that Jesus Christ (PBUH) was one of the great prophets of the Almighty. He has been repeatedly praised in the Koran. Jesus (PBUH) has been quoted in Koran as well; "[19,36] And surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord, therefore serves Him; this is the right path, Marium."
Service to and obedience of the Almighty is the credo of all divine messengers.
The God of all people in Europe, Asia, Africa, America, the Pacific, and the rest of the world is one. He is the Almighty who wants to guide and give dignity to all His servants. He has given greatness to Humans.
We again read in the Holy Book: the Almighty God sent His prophets with miracles and clear signs to guide the people and show them divine signs and purity them from sins and pollutions. And He sent the Book and the balance so that the people display justice and avoid the rebellious.
All of the above verses can be seen, one way or the other, in the Good Book as well.
Divine prophets have promised: the day will come when all humans will congregate before the court of the Almighty, so that their deeds are examined. The good will be directed towards Heaven and evildoers will meet divine retribution. I trust both of us believe in such a day, but it will not be easy to calculate the actions of rulers, because we must be answerable to our nations and all others whose lives have been directly or indirectly effected by our actions.
All prophets, speak of peace and tranquillity for man – based on monotheism, justice and respect for human dignity.
Do you not think that if all of us come to believe in and abide by these principles, that is, monotheism, worship of God, justice, respect for the dignity of man, and belief in the Last Day, we can overcome the present problems of the world – that are the result of disobedience to the Almighty and the teachings of prophets – and improve our performance?
Do you not think that belief in these principles promotes and guarantees peace, friendship and justice?
Do you not think that the aforementioned written or unwritten principles are universally respected?
Will you not accept this invitation? That is, a genuine return to the teachings of prophets, to monotheism and justice, to preserve human dignity and obedience to the Almighty and His prophets?
Mr. President, History tells us that repressive and cruel governments do not survive. God has entrusted the fate of man to them. The Almighty has not left the universe and humanity to their own devices. Many things have happened contrary to the wishes and plans of governments. These tell us that there is a higher power at work and all events are determined by Him.
Can one deny the signs of change in the world today? Is this situation of the world today comparable to that of ten years ago? Changes happen fast and come at a furious pace.
The people of the world are not happy with the status quo and pay little heed to the promises and comments made by a number of influential world leaders. Many people around the wolrd feel insecure and oppose the spreading of insecurity and war and do not approve of and accept dubious policies.
The people are protesting the increasing gap between the haves and the have-nots and the rich and poor countries.
The people are disgusted with increasing corruption.
The people of many countries are angry about the attacks on their cultural foundations and the disintegration of families. They are equally dismayed with the fading of care and compassion. The people of the world have no faith in international organizations, because their rights are not advocated by these organizations.
Liberalism and Western-style democracy have not been able to help realize the ideals of humanity. Today these two concepts have failed. Those with insight can already hear the sounds of the shattering and fall of the ideology and thoughts of the liberal democratic systems.
We increasingly see that people around the world are flocking towards a main focal point – that is the Almighty God. Undoubtedly through faith in God and the teachings of the prophets, the people will conquer their problems. My question for you is: do you not want to join them?
Mr. President,Whether we like it or not, the world is gravitating towards faith in the Almighty and justice and the will of God will prevail over all things.

Exit poll indicates clear majority for LDF / Rage over U.K. work permit rules / Children get justice after five years

Rage over U.K. work permit rules
Hasan Suroor
Indian doctors protest against immigration laws

LONDON : A large group of Indian doctors on Friday joined their counterparts
from other non-European Union countries to protest against new immigration
rules which would require them to obtain work permit before coming to
Britain either for training or employment.
Hundreds of angry overseas doctors demonstrated outside the Health
Department saying they felt "betrayed" by the sudden change in rules under
which work permits to doctors from non-E.U. countries would be given against
specific vacancies for which suitable "home-grown" doctors are not
available.
Those who are already here and do not have a work permit will be forced to
return home, and apply again. "I came here at great expense to improve my
job prospects and suddenly my whole life has been turned upside down,'' said
one Indian doctor.
The British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) said at least
15,000 doctors may have to leave the country without even completing their
training. Many were heavily in debt.

Mohamed Imranullah S
Court takes serious view of the delay in settling terminal benefits

One month time given to settle benefits
Chief Secretary and Finance Secretary asked to monitor case
The money should be put in a fixed deposit account in the name of the
children

MADURAI: Fate could not have been harsher on 10-year-old C. Infend Senaka
and her six-year-old brother, C. Isaya Abhishek, from Theni district.
The children lost their father, Charles Anthony, on March 9, 2000. And their
mother, C. Leena Rose, died almost a year later, on March 5, 2001.
To add to their woes, they fought for nearly five years to receive the
terminal benefits and the monthly pension due to their mother, who worked as
a secondary grade teacher in an aided school. Tired of appealing to the
authorities, the children moved a writ petition (represented by their
maternal uncle M.S. Thomas) before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High
Court. And they were stunned by the emphatic response.

Private water, public misery / how smart city proposal made kerala lose job opportunities

Private water, public misery

Privatisation of water is taking root in India, often aided by political and bureaucratic corruption. Alongside, resistance to this is also building up.

THE Sheonath River Project is turning out to be Chhattisgarh's worst inheritance from undivided Madhya Pradesh. The project, India's first river privatisation experiment, was handed over to Radius Water Limited (RWL) by the Madhya Pradesh government, pleading a lack of sufficient funds.

The Rs.9-crore project was formalised on October 5, 1998, between Madhya Pradesh Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam (MPAKVN) and RWL on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis for the construction of a barrage on the Sheonath to supply up to 30 million litres of water per day (MLD) to the Borai Industrial Growth Centre in Durg district. The barrage construction was completed in two years and operations began in January 2001.

"We got to know about the privatisation of the river only when RWL began harassing villagers near the river and held self-laudatory press conferences in Delhi," says Lalit Surjan, Editor of Deshbandhu, a local newspaper. "We then began an investigation and were shocked by the findings."

The agreement, which was inherited by the Chhattisgarh State Industrial Corporation (CSIDC) when the State was carved out of Madhya Pradesh in 2000, categorically gave RWL exclusive access to a 23.6-kilometre stretch of the river for a period of 22 years (including two years for project construction). RWL secured monopoly rights over the supply of water to all sectors and phases of the Borai Industrial Centre, and the CSIDC was obliged to provide all land for the project free of cost. The CSIDC was expected to purchase water from RWL and sell it to the industrial units in Borai.

The contract states: "It is clearly understood by both parties that the Project Company has nothing to do with the actual users of the water, i.e. various Industries/Units/Companies ... ."

Now tooth for an eye if corneal transplant fails
R. Sujatha
Sankara Nethralaya has so far done the procedure on nine patients

Patient's tooth used to fix lens
Recommended for chemical injuries

CHENNAI: Using a person's own tooth to help him see is a boon in cases the
conventional corneal transplant from a cadaver fails.
Cadaver corneal transplant is the usual procedure done on patients suffering
from chemical injury to the eye. But such injuries leave the eyes too dry
and the transplant effort fails.
For some time now, Sankara Nethralaya has been suggesting osteo-odonto
keratoprosthesis (OOKP) procedure for such cases.
The technique was developed by an Italian surgeon Benedetto Strampelli in
the 1960s but was abandoned because of poor results. It was revived by his
student, Gian Carlo Falcinelli, working for San Camillo Hospital in Rome.
Sometimes the damage to the cornea, along with the ocular surface and the
limbal stem cells (the cells in the junction of the cornea and the
conjunctiva), is so severe that stem cell transplant is not viable. The
damage occurs following chemical injuries to the eye or Stevens Johnson
Syndrome (a form of severe drug allergy). In such conditions, though the
cornea is damaged internal structures such as the optic nerves and the
retina are functional. The OOKP procedure is done in two stages: The
patient's canine tooth is removed and prepared to hold the cylinder (lens).
It is then placed in a pocket under the skin of the other eye. A three cm
mucous is removed from inside the cheek to cover the sclera of the injured
eye.

Soviets win space race / Lessons from the new intolerance

Search ON THIS DAY , 12 April
1961: Soviets win space race
The Soviet Union has beaten the USA in the race to get the first man into space.

At just after 0700BST, Major Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin was fired from the Baikonur launch pad in Kazakhstan, Soviet central Asia, in the space craft Vostok (East).

Major Gagarin orbited the Earth for 108 minutes travelling at more than 17,000 miles per hour (27,000 kilometres per hour) before landing at an undisclosed location.

The Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev has congratulated Major Gagarin on his achievement.

He sent the cosmonaut a message from his holiday home on the Black Sea.

Lessons from the new intolerance

Harish Khare

Whether or not the IIMs and IITs are forced to open their doors a little wider, the new fashionable intolerance exhibited in these last few days should be a sobering experience for all of us.

THESE LAST few days have witnessed a fascinating battle for the control of the public discourse. A handful of newspapers and a couple of English language television channels have done their best to stoke a 1990-type hysteria over the proposed new reservation regime in Central educational institutions. Television crews have been despatched to find voices of "merit" that are aghast at the very idea that institutes of management, presumed bastion of merit and competition, are now sought to be pried open to admit children of the lesser gods. Captains of industry are on record as to how a few hundred seats in management schools will erode India's competitiveness in this age of globalisation.

The crux of our present day dilemma was foreseen many years ago by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. In the last sitting of the Constituent Assembly, he noted: "We are going to enter into a life of contradictions. In politics we will have equality and in social and economic life we will have inequality. In politics, we will be recognising the principle of one man-one vote and one vote-one value. In our social and economic life, we shall by reason of our social and economic structure, continue to deny the principle of one man-one value. How long shall we continue to live this life of contradictions?

Last year, for example, only 11 Muslim candidates could make the grade out of the 422 men and women selected for the IAS, IFS, IPS and other Central services. Of these 11, eight made it in the category of Other Backward Classes (OBC). No one wants to acknowledge the near-systemic marginalisation of the largest minority in the country.

Acronym And Abbreviation Dictionary
I don't know who made the first acronym, but what a floodgate was opened
with it. An acronym is defined by dictionary.com as a word formed from the
initial letters of a name, such as WAC for Women's Army Corps, or by
combining initial letters or parts of a series of words, such as RADAR for
RAdio Detecting And Ranging. There you go.

Woman's body in flat for two years with TV still on
By Richard Edwards and Amar Singh, Evening Standard

London: A woman's skeleton was found in her London flat where she died more
than two years ago.
Joyce Vincent, 40, was discovered clutching a shopping bag and surrounded by
Christmas presents she had wrapped but failed to deliver.
The television and heating was still on. The fridge was packed with items
best before November 2003 and washing up was in a bowl in the kitchen of her
Wood Green bedsit.

Soviets win space race / Lessons from the new intolerance
